New car insurance rates

1. Check how expensive your preferred car is Cars that cost a lot usually cost a lot more to insure. There’s no bias against bigger cars. It’s just that your insurer knows that it would cost a lot more to replace such a car if it’s totalled.
2. You also need to find out what it costs to maintain the car of your choice. There are cars that are known to cost a lot to maintain. Wear and tear will set in after some use and you’ll need to maintain it. Major repairs might also be needed either because of an accident or just normal wear and tear. This, among other factors, is considered before your rates are determined. A high maintenance cost will only mean higher rates.
3. Don’t forget about going for a car with a high safety rating. The added incentive is that you are taking measures to ensure that you safeguard the lives of those who use your car. Although every manufacturer these days gives safety a high priority, there are still cars that are heads and shoulders above others in this area. You can check with your agent to get the safety rating of various cars before you finalize your buying decision.
4. Don’t fail to consider the vehicle’s theft rate. There are cars that have a bad reputation in this area. The more trendy a car is, the more likely it is to be targeted by thieves — Especially if it’s a car that can easily be lost (NOT the one of a kind types). All you need to do is check car theft rates from the appropriate offices or their websites. Cars that are have a high theft rate attract higher rates than normal.
For those who can’t use any but trendy cars, make sure you take steps that will make them more difficult for car thieves. A good example of this is installing theft-deterrent features.
5. Whatever you do, you can’t make the most of savings if you do NOT comparison shop. If you get estimates from different insurers you’ll know before hand which will cost you so much and which will cost you little. Also, even if your mind is made up on the particular car you want, you’ll find which insurer has the best rate for you. But bear in mind that although it’s important to save as much as possible, it’s more important to get adequate coverage. Getting sufficient coverage is the best way on the long run.
